The best kind of food for you at this moment in time. It’s a fact of life: you can’t be healthy all the time. There are going to be moments when you want something that’s probably not good for you, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But it’s also important to know what your body needs right now so that you can make healthy choices later when they matter more.
Reading food trivia questions and answers will teach you a lot about food and nutrition. This can help you make better choices, especially when faced with a tempting treat that may not be good for you (such as a delicious piece of chocolate cake).
So here’s my list of foods that will satisfy your cravings without making you feel guilty:
Egg-in-a-Hole
Eggs are a healthy source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. In addition, they contain a lot of choline, lutein, and zeaxanthin. These essential nutrients can help support your eyesight, brain function, and immune system health.
Baked Potato
Baked potatoes are the ultimate comfort food. They’re also incredibly versatile, which means they can be made to fit any diet or lifestyle. There are so many ways to prepare potatoes that you’ll never get bored with them, regardless of how often you eat them.
Here’s how I make mine:
- Scrub the potato clean with soap and water (do not peel) and then stab it with a fork in several places around its circumference.
- Put the potato in an oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes until soft when poked with a fork through one of your holes (this step is optional).
- Remove from the oven and add toppings like butter (or olive oil), salt, pepper, parmesan cheese, or sour cream (or Greek yogurt).
A GIANT Sandwich
I’m not talking about a quarter-pounder with cheese. I’m talking about the kind of giant sandwich you could feed three people on, or seven if they were really hungry. The type with more variety in its contents than any person would think to put on one plate. The kind that was made with intention and care still feels casual enough for a walk down the street. The kind where every bite is different and exciting, where you might discover something new and unexpected. At any moment
The perfect giant sandwich is constructed with high-quality ingredients (but not too high in price), thinks outside the box when it comes to textures (but not so far as to be challenging), offers an array of flavors (but not overkill), and colors (again: not overboard). Finally, it should be able to withstand being eaten over time, it should last as long as possible before completely disintegrating into a pile of mushy food remnants in your mouth.
Pancakes
There are several ways to make pancakes. All of them will get the job done, but some are more effective than others. If you want to be successful in your pancake-making endeavors, follow these tips:
- Make sure the batter doesn’t get too thin or too thick. If it’s too thin, your pancakes will be floppy and burnt on the edges; if it’s too thick, they’ll taste like glue and probably kill you from all that flour going into your bloodstream.
- Make sure your batter isn’t overly fluffy or flat either, if it’s fluffier than a marshmallow cloud, those bubbles will burst when they hit the grill while they cook, which creates holes inside the finished product (and no one wants a spot in their breakfast). As for being flat? Well, that’s just boring.
Mac and Cheese
While we’re on the topic of comfort foods, let’s talk about mac and cheese. It’s universal comfort food that everyone loves, and it’s also a great source of protein and calcium, which makes it a good choice when you want to feel complete. One cup of cooked pasta has 10 grams of protein (that’s almost half the recommended daily intake). And if you’re worried about eating too much cheese? Don’t be. A serving size is only 2 ounces: one slice or two tablespoons.
Macaroni soothes your soul with its warm yellow glow, but these noodles are more than just an aesthetic choice, they’re also loaded with vitamins A and C and riboflavin (B2). So next time you’re looking for something comforting to warm your heart and belly, reach for a bowlful of macaroni instead of ice cream.
A Piece of Chocolate (Or Four)
When you feel like the world is against you, indulge in a piece of chocolate. However, if you don’t want to gain weight and feel guilty about eating something so delicious, then it’s better not to eat anything at all than give yourself the option of eating something unhealthy.
