Saving on the quantity and quality of locking devices makes your purchase meaningless. There are several parameters that any, more or less acceptable door, designed to be the protection of your home, must meet.
Locks
Of course, the presence of locking devices for shop front doors is important, i.e. castles. It is clear that there must be at least two of them. Usually this is the main lever lock and an auxiliary cylinder lock with a degree of protection, the higher, the more reliable.
The lever lock should protect the entrance steel door from force penetration, while the cylinder lock is more complex and its breaking requires certain qualifications and equipment. It should be remembered that it is better to have at least four crossbars 2 or more cm long that retract when closing. Modern door models often have an additional latch – a “night lock”, which is certainly good.
Door hinges
The hinges on which the door is attached are very important. Of course, it is better that they are hidden, i.e. located inside the door itself, if not, then additional pins are needed that will not allow you to remove your door if the hinges are cut off during breaking. By the way, there should be 3-4 hinges (not two, as usual) if your door weighs more than 70 kg and / and opens more than 50 times a day, for example, in the office.
Pretends and platbands
Of course, the presence of any gaps and voids between the elements of the entire structure is unacceptable. Therefore, it is great if the model provides for additional vestibules (protruding parts of the front panel) and platbands that will not allow you to insert any lever and unscrew your door along with the box.
Inward or Outward?
Firefighters will be called in to kick down the door in case of a fire. It’s safer and more comfortable for you to go outside, but it’s just inconvenient for your neighbor (especially if the opening angle is more than 90 degrees), so it’s better to discuss this in advance.
If the door is made of thick UK steel (more than 2 mm), then its weight will be at least 100 kg. Such a “monster” requires special fastening and careful operation (it can simply press down).
If the door is installed on an open “street” entrance, it means that it is covered with at least hammer enamel.
Doors quality
The quality of the steel from which the door leaf is made and the production technology are extremely important. When choosing an entrance metal door, you need to pay close attention to this.
First, pay attention to the rigidity of the structure, which must be with an absolutely regular geometric shape. This requirement is ideally met for models made of sufficiently thick steel, i.e. the thickness of the steel sheet is at least 1.2 mm, and in some expensive models, mainly UK-made – starting from 1.8 mm.
All in all
The most important thing where you should start looking for the right model is to prioritize, i.e. decide what is more important to you – appearance, protective properties or purchase price. In any case, among the models that our store has, you will certainly be able to choose the front door that will be perfect for you!
